The Black Phone (2022)

You’ll feel the trembling pulse of a 13‑year‑old trapped in a soundproof basement, where the sound of his own breath seems louder than the outside world. Across this horror‑thriller, the specter that clutches the boy’s imagination is amplified by a disused phone that rings with the moans of previous victims, turning the room into a haunted radio station. The quiet, almost whispered voice of Joaquin Phoenix’s unseen killer, backed by a score that echoes like a trapped throat, makes the ghost‑telephone an unforgettable character of its own. A minor flaw creeps in during the second act where the tension lulls—a brief lull before the finale lengthens the dread in a way that could feel protracted for impatient viewers. Still, this film’s eerie, audio‑driven terror rewards patience, delivering a psychological plunge that hooks whatever horror enthusiast you are.
