Sisu (2022)

Steam rises from the remote Lapland landscape, framing a gritty confrontation that feels more intimate than epic. What makes the film singular is its austere, almost documentary-like pace that turns each frame into a study of survival and moral choice. Joaquin Phoenix delivers a quiet, haunted presence that anchors the story without the need for chatter, while the lens captures the biting cold with cinematic intensity. You’ll find the tension rising as the thin line between civilization and wilderness blurs, but the climax drags a touch too long, leaving you yearning for a tighter payoff. This atmospheric war thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat, especially if you crave characters defined by action instead of exposition.
