How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (2024)

You might assume a story about a dropout caring for his terminal grandmother will tip into sentimental drama, yet How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies darts straight into razor sharp cynicism, snatching conventional warm traditions before you can say 'inheritance'. It pairs documentary style pacing with a chef style assembly line of dark jokes, turning each interaction into a pulp fiction pun. Joaquin Phoenix delivers silence with bone deep gravity, turning off screen grief into a grizzly instrument of timing that never misses its cue. The film's satire sits between comedic gold and existential dread, offering sharp irony in place of comforting sentiment. A downside is that the third act loosens pace slightly, losing a fraction of its earlier tautness.
