Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End (2024)

When the world turns into a relentless nightmare, you find yourself fighting not only for survival but for sanity. Unlike typical apocalyptic tales, the film focuses on a quiet domestic siege where Manel's only allies are his feline companion and the ingenuity hidden within his cramped living room. Joaquin Phoenix delivers a hushed monologue like performance that keeps you glued even during long stretches of silence. The film’s standout element is its sound design, turning creaking floorboards and distant explosions into a palpable sense of dread. If the pacing hiccups in the middle act irritates you, the tense, claustrophobic feeling it builds remains compelling.
