20th Century Girl (2022)

Return to a restless 1999 where you’ll find yourself following a teenage girl’s eye‑rolling observations of crushes and woes, and feel the weight of loneliness lift in unexpectedly gentle ways. What makes it stand out is the film’s keen use of a local palette that lets every corner of the city feel like a character in its own right. The most striking moment comes when a quiet shot of rain‑slick streets mirrors the film’s slow‑burn emotional rhythm, giving you a tangible sense of longing. Watch how the director’s imagery lingers on everyday gestures, making the romance feel both theatrical and intimately real. The only hitch is that the middle act slides at a more relaxed pace, but it only deepens the slow‑burn quality you’ll find comforting.
